Secular reform of the military should be a top priority for the new parliament

Today, we’ve announced the secular reforms we want to see in the new parliament.

And the top priority for us is to see secular change in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). In particular, we’ll be campaigning and lobbying hard for the ADF’s outdated religious-based chaplaincy model to be replaced with a modern wellbeing support capability.

Few issues are as pressing or have as much effect on vulnerable people’s lives than secular reform of the ADF.

We also want to see reform of the National School Chaplaincy Program and reform of the charity tax system, plus the replacement of Christian prayers in parliament with something more inclusive.

During the new parliament, we’ll be stepping up our lobbying and campaigning activities. As we said last week, the parliament has an opportunity now to shape a truly secular Australia.
