Next government must support our public broadcasters

The outcome of this federal election will be crucial for the future of Australia’s public broadcasters, the ABC and SBS.

In the next term of parliament, the new government needs to rectify the underfunding of the public broadcasters and defend them from attacks from commercial media operators.

In a video message, our Treasurer Brendan Liveris says the ABC and SBS play a critical role in our democracy and must be strengthened.

In his video message, Mr Liveris also says it’s important for the ABC to accommodate the voice of pro-secular Australians, given the rapid rise in people identifying as non-religious.

Following the election, the RSA will urge ABC management to introduce programming that has a focus on the secular and non-religious viewpoints, and to include more pro-secular voices in its shows.
