Hi ,
In coming days, the Tasmanian upper house – the Legislative Council – could become the first chamber of any state or federal parliament in Australia to replace daily prayer rituals with more inclusive, secular practices.
Independent member Mike Gaffney has tabled a motion proposing to replace the recital of the Lord’s
Prayer with a new secular statement.
With 50 per cent of Tasmanians identifying as not religious, we believe now is the time for the state parliament to modernise its practices to reflect the state’s diversity and make all people feel welcome and included in parliament.
You can help Mike make history by encouraging the other members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) to support the motion when it comes time to vote.
