Good morning ,
So I'm sittling here in the atrium of a Hyatt hotel just out of New York, having navigated US highways for most
of the day south from Martha's Vineyard. My 2 week interregnum to explore what I want to do with the rest of my life, such as it is, has proven more edifying than I could have imagined.
But you may be surprised to hear why.
As readers will know, I have
been president of the Rationalist Society for over a decade now, and am a committed devotee of the idea that as individuals and as a society we should value rationality over emotionality. But that does not mean that rationalists are bereft of a life of the emotions.
I wrote a couple of weeks ago that I was taking time off to investigate how I wanted to spend the rest of
my life.
The answer is: with a man with whom I have fallen head over heels in love.
Yes, I know that sounds crazy for someone who is no longer in the bloom of youth. But there it is - and it feels wonderful.
When I get back home next week, I will continue to produce RSA Daily - it's an important part of my daily routine and I like to think it keeps both me, and you, dear reader, up to date with issues that remain important to the lives of reasonable, committed, fair-minded people.
So, for those
of you who value this little daily missive, know that it will continue, and that, thanks to a wonderful, kind, admirable and beautiful man, my future life will be enriched beyond measure.
M.
