Hi ,
The end is almost in sight for Councillor Victor Franco’s long-running battle to replace prayer
rituals with secular and more inclusive practices at Boroondara Council meetings.
But Victor needs your help one more time to finally make his local government a more welcoming place for all.
Boroondara Council – located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs – is currently accepting public feedback on its Governance Rules regarding the prayer ritual that opens meetings.
Members of the public have until 5pm on Tuesday 20 June 2023 to tell the council it should remove acts of religious worship from its
meetings.
People and organisations who support secularism and who are located outside of the Boroondara local government area are also able to take part.
Please take a few minutes to fill in the survey on the council’s website or
to make a written submission.
Click here to find out how to take part and get tips for what to say in your submission.
Your survey responses or submission can be short – just a few sentences on why government meetings should be secular and welcoming of all people.
Let’s stand with Victor again and let Boroondara Council know that council is not a church and that all people should feel welcome at
its meetings.
Regards,
