The "new identity-focused ideology" is not an extension of previous social justice movements - and no friend to those with a progressive mindset. Emerging from a synthesis of postmodernism, postcolonialism and critical race theory, identity-focused ideology rejects the achievements of the civil rights and social justice
movements of the past - and importantly, fails to consider class.
Woke ideology (or 'identity synthesis'):
- Is skeptical about objective truth
- Uses
'discourse analysis' for political ends
- Embraces rather than dismantles differences in identity
- Is proudly pessimistic about civil rights progress
- Rejects 'equal treatment' laws
- Emphasises 'intersectionality'
- Asserts that only marginalised groups have access to certain truths.
'Identity synthesis' ('woke' ideology) is a trap that should be avoided by those of us committed to fairness, equality and universality. "Genuine insights, important realisations and progressive values lure the sympathetic. But too often those insights are developed in extreme and
implausible ways, ultimately betraying the very goals they claim to value."
