Good morning ,
Even my North American correspondent, formerly a criminal lawyer with a
healthy respect for the legal system, was infuriated (and mortified) by the actions of the Chief Justice of Alabama in our Lead Story case.
In delivering his verdict on the case, the Chief Justice - one of the architects for the overturning of Roe v. Wade - wrote: "Human life cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God .. even before birth, all human beings have the image of God, and their lives cannot be destroyed without effacing his glory.”
Believe it or not, there is a Code of Ethics for American judges, which includes, among other things, this: A Judge Should Perform the Duties of the Office Fairly, Impartially and Diligently - "The judge should not engage in behavior that is harassing, abusive, prejudiced, or
biased."
Welcome to the Alabama Republic of Gilead.
