Hi
It’s been 911 days since the Victorian government promised to remove prayers from parliament.
In August 2021, the Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes told parliament that Labor was committed to “workshopping a replacement model that is purpose-fit for Victoria”.
Yet, nothing has happened.
Now, Christian lobbyists are letter-bombing new Premier Jacinta Allan, telling her to keep the daily Christian prayers – including the Lord’s Prayer
– at the opening of each day’s proceedings.
So it’s time for secular-minded Victorians to stand up and call on the Victorian government to deliver on its promise.
We have written to Premier Allan and to Attorney-General Symes this week, urging Victoria to lead the way on this issue and make the reform this year.
If you live in Victoria and have a few minutes to spare, please write to Premier Allan and CC Attorney-General Symes to urge them to remove prayers from the state parliament.
If you’d like to use some of the arguments that we have made, read
our latest article (and the letter that we sent to the Premier and Attorney-General) here on our website.
If Victoria makes this reform, we believe other parliaments across Australia will follow suit.
In
solidarity,
