Hi ,
Welcome to our new RSA Weekly newsletter!
Sadly, it won't be possible to bring you a newsletter every day (Meredith is, indeed, leaving big shoes to fill!) But, at the end of each week, we'll send you an RSA Weekly with links to interesting news and opinion/analysis articles for you to read at your leisure over the weekend.
I spend much of my week focused on our campaign work. For one of our campaigns, we have been working with a coalition of groups, known as 'Census21', on the Census religion question. That issue is generating media interest at the moment, as religious groups lobby the Albanese government to intervene and reject the Australian Bureau of Statistics' proposal to change the question (to remove the inherent
bias). As we reported (see article below), the head of the ABS appeared at Senate estimates on Tuesday.
In late May, Crikey reported about Census21's response to church lobbying of government. Unfortunately, Crikey's headline writers referred to us as 'atheists'. Of course, not all people involved in and supporting the
Census21 campaign are atheists. So we've asked Crikey to correct its headline. Read our letter to Crikey here.
On our Rationale website, we love to share our members' views and opinions on topics of interest in our Letters to the Editor column. If you wish to comment on
articles that appear in our RSA Weekly, you can send an email to editor@rationalist.com.au.
