Teacher Samantha Cairns knows all too well about the damage that is caused when faith-based schools utilise their religious exemptions from discrimination laws to take disciplinary action against staff.
As a gay woman, she was fired from her job at a Christian school when the leadership became aware of her sexuality.
“It was very damaging to me in a lot of ways and it has taken a long time to process and to heal through that experience.”
Samantha has shared her story as part of our campaign to raise awareness of how religious exemptions from discrimination laws harm and hurt.
